Answer: In the wild, the life span of the olive ridley turtle is about fifty years and there are an estimated 8,00,000 nesting females annually.

b. What could be the reason for this breed of sea turtle being called the olive ridley? 
Answer:  They probably got the name 'Olive-ridley' from the olive-green colour of their name.

c. What is the weight and length of an olive ridley turtle?
Answer: Olive ridley turtles weighs 25 to 50 Kgs and has an average length of 60 to 70 cm. 

d. From where do olive ridley turtles get the oxygen they require to remain alive?
Answer: When active, they have to come up to the of the of the sea, as they can't breathe under-water. They come up every few minutes to breathe in rapidly. When they are resting, they can   remain underwater for as long as two hours without breathing. When they come up, they exhale explosively.

e. Why is the trip the baby turtles make to the sea not smooth sailing?
Answer: The trip the baby turtles make to the sea is not smooth sailing because Jackals, hyenas, dogs and crabs and man prey on these baby turtles.

f. How have the WWF and the fishermen helped to keep the olive ridley turtles safe?
Answer: The WWF and the fisherman have helped by making themselves responsible for protecting the baby turtles. Attempts have been made to protect olive ridley rokries or breeding places, by fencing off these areas.

g. Where is the world's largest rookery of olive ridley turtles situated?
Answer: The world's largest-known olive ridley rookery is at the Gahirmatha Marine wild life sanctuary in Kendrapara district of Odisha, which includes Gahirmatha Beach and the adjacent portion of the Bay of Bangal.
